The Sky is Falling

The sky is falling; the sky is falling; cried poor Chicken Little while running in circles after getting hit on the head by an acorn. Chicken little franticly told Henny Penny that the sky was falling. They ran to tell Turkey Lurkey the same, next Ducky Lucky and then off to tell Goosey Loosey. This story does not end well for these birds as they all run into Foxy Loxy’s den, and never come out again.

End Times?

Many voices speaking today about the end times sound a lot like Chicken Little: they prophesy doom and destruction, the Antichrist and Armageddon. There are countless of these predictions throughout history of the end times, obviously all miscalculations. Jesus talks about this in Mark 13 when He describes the conditions of His second coming. In verse 28-30, He described the signs that the end is near. He did not give details of the exact date. Instead, He described the timeframe using the parable of a fig tree budding and putting forth leaves with the approach of summer. This is the extent of linking time with the events.

Are You Chicken Little?

We are told of signs that let us know the end could be near, but we do not know the exact dates. Jesus affirms this in Mark 13:31-33 and Matthew 24:36 and the Apostle Paul in Acts 1:7, all which say it is not for us to know. Additionally, if Jesus did not know and the angels do not know, what makes us think we can know? Therefore, it is obvious that no one can predict when the second coming of Christ will occur. Think about this. What would you do today if you knew that the end of the world is tomorrow? Would your actions knowing this… be different from not knowing? If so, why?

Heed God’s word in Mark 3:32-37 “But concerning that day or that hour, no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.  Be on guard, keep awake. For you do not know when the time will come. It is like a man going on a journey, when he leaves home and puts his servants in charge, each with his work, and commands the doorkeeper to stay awake.  Therefore stay awake—for you do not know when the master of the house will come, in the evening, or at midnight, or when the rooster crows, or in the morning—lest he come suddenly and find you asleep.  And what I say to you I say to all: Stay awake.”

The Chicken Little’s of the world are busy running around worrying about their head instead of their heart. Prepare yourself so you will be ready for the Lords coming. Do not get caught sleeping. Look to God’s Word and promises through Christ, which create and strengthen our faith through which we will be saved.

Lord, give me strength to be ready for the sky to fall at any moment of everyday and grant me the wisdom to proclaim the good news of our salvation to those who are sleeping. Amen.

Today’s Scripture

Mark 13:28-30

The lesson of the fig tree

28 “From the fig tree learn its lesson: as soon as its branch becomes tender and puts out its leaves, you know that summer is near. 29 So also, when you see these things taking place, you know that he is near, at the very gates. 30 Truly, I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all these things take place.

Mark 13:31-33

31 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away. 32 “But concerning that day or that hour, no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. 33 Be on guard, keep awake.[1] For you do not know when the time will come.

Matthew 24:36

36 “But concerning that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father only.

Acts 1:7

7 He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or seasons that the Father has fixed by his own authority.

Mark 13:32-37

No one knows that day or hour

32 “But concerning that day or that hour, no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. 33 Be on guard, keep awake.[1] For you do not know when the time will come. 34 It is like a man going on a journey, when he leaves home and puts his servants[2] in charge, each with his work, and commands the doorkeeper to stay awake. 35 Therefore stay awake—for you do not know when the master of the house will come, in the evening, or at midnight, or when the rooster crows,[3] or in the morning— 36 lest he come suddenly and find you asleep. 37 And what I say to you I say to all: Stay awake.”
