The Farm Shop
Main Shop
Our main shop is a 5000 sq ft insulated heated building where two infrared heaters maintain a pleasant 60 degrees in the winter. In the heat of the summer we have a large water cooler to make it more comfortable. Therefore, most of our repairs and fabrication are completed in this shop as well as tire repair and balancing. There is always a project waiting for when we have a moment, or a day that is not suitable to work outside.
We also do all of our own hydraulic hose repair with three sizes of bulk hose and hundreds of fittings. Bolt bins and drawers numbering up to 1000 individual storage spaces help us cut down on “parts runs”. Bulk hydraulic oil, diesel engine oil, and DEF help make servicing equipment efficient. Air lines from a two stage air compressor is routed over the entire building with 3/4 inch steel line and seven air drops for convenience. Also an overhead beam on wheels with a hoist assist heavy projects.
There are two drain sump’s so we can either wash a vehicle inside or let snow melt off and drain away. We keep our shop clean and tools organized. Shields are in place where needed, flammable liquids stored in an approved cabinet. GFCI electric plugins installed where required. High pressure bottles are chained, fire extinguishers in marked locations, exit doors marked, and many other OSHA requirements met.
Service
The majority of our equipment is repaired in the off-season. However, service work is accomplished throughout the year as required. For servicing vehicles we have a five foot deep pit with stairs. This pit has planks that can be removed and replaced with minimal effort.
When service work is required outside of these areas we use our service truck, with a complete set of tools, crane, bolt supply, welder and torch. This is quite handy as we can service or repair at other locations when the need arises.
Additional Storage
In our main shop, there is an upper deck which provides three rows of storage for parts, filters, hose, and larger supplies. This area is shared with a break room with a fridge, oven, and restroom for the crew.
Two other shops, one a 2000 and the other a 5000 sq ft shop houses a lot of our equipment on the farm. The larger one is not insulated or heated, but the smaller one does have a waste oil heater that we use to keep the feeding equipment warm for ease of starting through the frigid temperatures. There are three additional buildings we use to store equipment at different locations.
