Light Bulb Moment
Have you ever had a “light bulb” moment? Leaving the light on might be a better option. However, the other day I had one of those light bulb moments while watching my dog. All I did was look down at one of my Labradors passionately waiting for me to throw a stick. With this hound, it didn’t seem to matter what she brings, a small stick, big stick, a ball, or an empty pop bottle. What is characteristic of her is once she choses an object, that is the precious object to be chased down and brought back repeatedly. So, there I am, not really wanting to throw the slobbery thing, knowing it will just be right back there again.
That’s when the light bulb lit up above my head. Just as this stick or object is the “precious chosen one”, so am I, chosen by God. Sure, I have known this and even taught it in bible class. But for some reason the visual of my dog’s enormous passion give momentous meaning to “chosen”.
You are Chosen
In John 15:16 Jesus says, “You didn’t choose me. I chose you. I appointed you to go and produce lasting fruit, so that the Father will give you whatever you ask for, using my name.” This He told the eleven the day before He died on the cross for us all. Paul writes in Ephesians 1:4 “He chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight.” We also find in 1 Peter 2:9 “You are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation. God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light”.
There is overwhelming evidence that God has chosen those who are believers in Jesus. But why? Is there something unique about you and me? Not necessarily. God chose us out of His love and mercy for His children. So what does that mean then to be chosen? What do I do now? We must remember that God chose you… and as a believer, at the end of each day you know you are forgiven and are free to live that freedom. The freedom that Christ has already paid for by His sacrifice. “For the death he died he died to sin, once for all, but the life he lives he lives to God” Romans 6:10.
God’s Light
God also chose you and me so that we could join in His work in the world. “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them” Ephesians 2:10. God chose you because He has a purpose in mind for your life. So live in the freedom that Christ has provided for you. Knowing that on your best or worst day, you need Jesus just the same and that He has Chosen YOU. Be like that chosen stick, and passionately keep coming back for more. Coming back to Christ Jesus. He is waiting for you to respond; Christ is counting on you.
Dear Lord, thank You for using simple things to generate a light bulb moment within me to shine light on the awareness of Your grace. Amen.

Today’s Scripture
John 15:16
I Am the True Vine
16 You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last—and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you.
Ephesians 1:4-6
Spiritual Blessings in Christ
4 For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love 5 he predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will— 6 to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves.
1 Peter 2:9-10
A Living Stone and a Holy People
9 But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. 10 Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.
Romans 6:8-10
Dead to Sin, Alive to God
8 Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him. 9 For we know that since Christ was raised from the dead, he cannot die again; death no longer has mastery over him. 10 The death he died, he died to sin once for all; but the life he lives, he lives to God.
Ephesians 2:10
By Grace Through Faith
10 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God, not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
